Senior Technical Specialist, General Liability

Location: Hybrid; CT - Hartford, with other locations in NY - Albany, MA - West Bridgewater, and NY - Buffalo. The role is based in the United States.

Salary: $94,400.00–$155,800.00 annual base salary, plus eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What you will do

• Independently manage complex, high-severity bodily injury and property damage liability claims and litigation from first notice of loss through resolution.
• Investigate claims, determine coverage, evaluate liability and damages, assess policy issues, establish reserves, and issue accurate payments within delegated authority.
• Communicate with customers, representatives, opposing counsel, vendors, internal stakeholders, and other relevant parties.
• Develop claim resolution strategies, coordinate internal and external resources, manage negotiations, and partner with Counsel on litigation strategy.
• Maintain accurate claim records, identify improvements to current practices, and adapt to technology implementations, system upgrades, and AI-related digital tools.
• Mentor and coach Claim Professionals, obtain and maintain required insurance licenses within three months of starting, and travel for mediations, trials, or arbitrations when required.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• At least three years of bodily injury liability, property damage liability, or comparable claim-related experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree.
• Four years of bodily injury claim and litigation experience.
• Active adjuster license where required by state law, with relevant insurance license maintenance required within three months of starting.
• Experience with claims management systems and advanced skills in Microsoft Office and enterprise technology systems and platforms.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to synthesize and explain complex information to multiple stakeholders.
• Ability to analyze complex situations, make independent decisions, manage customer expectations, resolve escalated issues, and maintain trust.
• Strong organizational, prioritization, stress management, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills, including experience with disputed high-value claims and legal counsel.
• Strong understanding of insurance principles and terminology, state and federal insurance regulations, fair claims practices legislation, and legal requirements.
• Ability to interpret, apply, and explain complex policy language, endorsements, and exclusions when assessing coverage and claim eligibility.
• Ability to learn quickly and apply experience to new situations with speed and flexibility.
