Technical Specialist, General Liability

Location: Hybrid in Hartford, Connecticut, United States; other listed locations include Albany and Buffalo, New York, and West Bridgewater, Massachusetts. The role may require overnight travel for mediations, trials, and arbitrations.

Annual base salary: $85,600–$141,200, plus eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What you will do

• Independently manage moderate- and high-complexity bodily injury, property damage, personal, and business liability claims and litigation from first notice of loss through resolution.
• Investigate claims, determine coverage, evaluate liability and damages, establish reserves, interpret policy terms, and issue timely and accurate payments within authority.
• Communicate with customers, claimants, attorneys, contractors, representatives, vendors, opposing counsel, and internal stakeholders.
• Coordinate internal and external resources, counsel, and litigation management strategies; negotiate settlements with multiple constituents.
• Maintain accurate claim records, identify improvements to best practices, and adapt to technology implementations, system upgrades, and AI-related digital tools.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to Claim Representatives and Associate Claim Representatives.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• At least two years of bodily injury liability, property damage liability, or comparable claims experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree.
• Three years of liability, bodily injury, or comparable claims experience.
• Two years of litigation claims experience.
• Active adjuster license where required by state law, and ability to acquire and maintain relevant insurance licenses within three months of starting.
• Experience with claims management systems and advanced skills in Microsoft Office and enterprise technology systems and platforms.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, customer service, conflict resolution, negotiation, organization, analysis, independent judgment, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to manage high-volume workloads, difficult conversations, complex or disputed claims, litigation, stress, and pressure with empathy, accountability, and professionalism.
• Thorough understanding of insurance principles and terminology, state insurance regulations, fair claims practices, applicable legal requirements, policy language, endorsements, and exclusions.
• Ability to learn quickly and apply experience to new situations with speed and flexibility.
