Senior Full Stack Engineer (Java/React)

Location: Remote, Virginia, United States; must have US citizenship and be able to pass a Public Trust investigation.

Salary: $140,000–$180,000 per year.

What you will do

• Design and architect robust, scalable APIs for large enterprise applications supporting the Department of Homeland Security.
• Integrate and operate CI/CD pipelines for building and releasing code and container images.
• Assess and refactor deprecated codebases to improve modernization, performance, maintainability, and reliability.
• Integrate React-based user interfaces with scalable APIs and support legacy system modernization.
• Develop migration solutions for legacy systems while minimizing downtime and operational risk.
• Identify and resolve technical debt while transitioning systems to modern Java frameworks and tools.

Requirements

• US citizenship and the ability to pass a Public Trust investigation.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least 10 years of total work experience.
• At least 5 years of Java 8+ experience, including legacy system modernization.
• At least 8 years of Python experience, including legacy system modernization.
• At least 5 years developing responsive web applications with React, Redux, and modern JavaScript.
• At least 5 years building RESTful microservices and service-oriented architectures.
• At least 3 years with CI/CD pipelines and deploying or operating in AWS or Azure cloud environments.
• At least 3 years with Spring Boot or other stateless Java frameworks, plus 3 years developing production applications and troubleshooting complex legacy-environment issues.
• Solid understanding of Git, version-control workflows, and collaborative development practices.
• Familiarity with CX and UI/UX principles and their application in modern software design.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain technical challenges and solutions to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience migrating monolithic architectures to microservices or other modern architectures, including exposure to containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with automated testing frameworks and tools.
• Experience with Docker, Keycloak, Jenkins, Terraform, Ansible, OpenSearch, Elasticsearch, and GitLab.
• At least 5 years of experience with relational databases and ORM technologies; Elasticsearch or OpenSearch experience is a plus.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development environments.
