Senior Software Engineer - Front End/Back End (Library of Congress)

Location: Remote within the United States

Salary: $115,000–$135,000 per year

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, maintain, and improve production software across front-end and back-end systems.
• Own contributions to the application codebase and support scope, schedule, and delivery requirements.
• Diagnose complex technical issues and drive improvements to systems, processes, reliability, and maintainability.
• Coordinate integrations and dependencies across adjacent technical areas, systems, and ecosystems.
• Lead small projects and technical initiatives while presenting design documents, system diagrams, and recommendations.
• Mentor engineers, participate in technical interviews, and communicate technical risks and decisions to clients and stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of professional software engineering experience; relevant experience may substitute for education where permitted.
• Expert-level knowledge in at least one discipline: front-end, back-end, full-stack, or infrastructure engineering.
• Experience designing, developing, testing, maintaining, and troubleshooting production software applications.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience providing technical guidance, mentorship, or peer support to engineers.
• Must meet applicable contractual or labor-category requirements related to education and professional experience.

Nice to have

• Full-stack experience with modern JavaScript frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue and back-end technologies such as Java, Python, or Node.
• Experience building web applications and APIs, working with relational or NoSQL databases, and using AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, Agile development, accessibility, security, performance, and scalable application design.
• Experience supporting government or federal programs and collaborating with clients, product teams, designers, and technical stakeholders.
