TL;DR
Senior Specialist, Electrical Engineer - Mixed-Signal DSP Hardware Engineer (mixed-signal DSP hardware): Developing high-speed mixed-signal, digital, and DSP-oriented hardware for airborne and space-based tracking, telemetry, and command systems with an accent on converter interfaces, timing, synchronization, signal integrity, and power integrity. Focus on architecting receiver, transmitter, direct-conversion, and modem subsystems, debugging hardware to the component level, and optimizing hardware/software partitioning across FPGA, ASIC, and DSP systems.

Location: San Diego, California, US; onsite role with a 9/80 first-shift schedule. Applicants must be able to obtain an interim Secret security clearance; security clearances may only be granted to U.S. citizens.

Salary: $106,500–$197,500 annually in California.

Company

hirify.global develops defense technology and end-to-end solutions across space, air, land, sea, and cyber domains for national security missions.

What you will do

  • Lead architecture, detailed design, schematic capture, component selection, derating, worst-case analysis, and documentation for mixed-signal, high-speed digital, and DSP hardware.
  • Develop receiver, transmitter, direct-conversion, and modem signal chains using high-speed ADCs, DACs, AFEs, PLLs, clock distribution, FPGA or ASIC interfaces, power supplies, and GHz-class signal interfaces.
  • Design high-speed data paths, converter interfaces, synchronization, throughput-critical processing chains, and digital platforms supporting or implementing DSP functions.
  • Guide PCB layout and board implementation, including stack-up, placement, controlled impedance, grounding, isolation, power distribution, signal integrity, power integrity, jitter, phase noise, and noise performance.
  • Perform trade studies, simulations, hardware bring-up, component-level debugging, design verification, troubleshooting, integration, manufacturing, and production support.
  • Collaborate with FPGA, ASIC, RF, DSP, software, systems, mechanical, and manufacturing engineering teams while providing technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with 6+ years of prior related experience, or a graduate degree with 4+ years of prior related experience.
  • Ability to obtain an interim Secret security clearance.

Nice to have

  • Experience designing mixed-signal and high-speed digital hardware with ADCs, DACs, AFEs, FPGA and ASIC interfaces, high-speed data paths, and DSP-supporting hardware.
  • Understanding of direct-conversion, modem, communications, and signal-processing architectures, including timing, synchronization, clocking, throughput, and JESD204 converter interfaces.
  • Experience optimizing DSP hardware platforms and partitioning functions across hardware, programmable logic, embedded processing, and software-defined modem implementations.
  • Experience with signal integrity, power integrity, low-noise power design, GHz-class board implementation, and point-of-load power supplies for high-performance devices.
  • Familiarity with RF principles, direct RF sampling, integrated AFEs, modern converter-based architectures, PLLs, synthesizers, jitter-cleaning clocks, clock buffering, and phase-coherent timing systems.
  • Experience with schematic capture, design analysis, laboratory debugging, design verification testing, SI/PI simulation, and high-speed mixed-signal PCB layout guidance.
  • Familiarity with EVM, SNR, SFDR, ENOB, phase noise, I/Q imbalance, and LO leakage metrics.
  • Experience with RF and high-frequency modem architecture, DSP integration, hardware/FPGA/ASIC/firmware/software partitioning, and complete communications subsystem implementation.
  • Experience supporting high-reliability, military, or aerospace hardware development; strong communication skills and effectiveness in multidisciplinary engineering environments.

Culture & Benefits

  • Inclusive and engaging environment focused on professional growth, work-life success, community commitment, and excellence.
  • Health and disability insurance, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, and an employee assistance program.
  • Education assistance, parental leave, paid time off, and company-paid holidays.
  • Benefits and available programs may vary by hire date, schedule type, and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
