Senior Principal Power Hardware Engineer

Location: On-site in Sunnyvale, California, United States, with an expectation to work from an HPE office at least 3 days per week.

Base salary: USD 181,000–367,000 annual salary in California. Variable incentives may also be offered.

What you will do

• Define organization-wide architectures, methodologies, technology roadmaps, and standards for power hardware design across multiple platforms and organizations.
• Lead Board Mount Power and Front-End Power projects from architectural definition through design, validation, and manufacturing release.
• Evaluate emerging power technologies, innovations, outsourced development partnerships, designs, and project activities for compliance with standards and guidelines.
• Drive integration of recommendations, new technologies, quality initiatives, design standardization, and continuous improvement across engineering and manufacturing.
• Provide technical leadership, mentor less-experienced engineers, and communicate architectures and design proposals at business unit and executive levels.
• Support empirical analysis, modeling, testing, reliability evaluation, thermal and emissions management, and prototype fabrication.

Requirements

• 12+ years of related power design engineering experience and a minimum BSEE degree are required.
• Experience with schematic capture and simulation tools, including SPICE, is required.
• Familiarity with multilayer PCB layout tools and techniques and power development CAD tools such as Cadence Sigrity PowerDC is required.
• Experience with liquid-cooled power systems and high-voltage architectures, including ±400 VDC and 800 VDC input systems, is highly desirable.
• Working knowledge of communication interfaces such as I2C and PMBus and firmware design experience are highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of power architecture requirements, industry standards, emerging power technologies, and electronic hardware architecture for networking and data center systems.
• Experience designing and integrating electronic components, integrated circuitry, and algorithms into overall architectures.
• Experience selecting and applying empirical analysis, modeling, and testing methodologies for component, circuit, hardware, thermal, and emissions validation.
• Electrical and electronic design, circuit design, testing, verification, CAD, PCBA board design, analytical, problem-solving, written, verbal, and communication skills are required.
• Ability to communicate nuanced technical concepts, influence decisions, and negotiate options and results with business unit and executive stakeholders.
• Active participation in industry councils, technical committees, standards organizations, or other technical bodies related to power specifications and standards is expected.
• A history of innovation with multiple patents in electronics is expected.
