TL;DR
Electrical Design Engineer (AI Infrastructure): Developing electrical designs for ruggedized, modular, containerized data centers with an accent on power distribution, protection studies, vendor integration, and commissioning. Focus on resolving manufacturing and field issues, coordinating multi-jurisdictional electrical systems, and supporting high-density AI compute deployments across multiple time zones.

Location: United States (Remote); US citizenship required. Occasional international travel to manufacturing partner sites, deployments, and trade events.

Base salary: $113,760–$142,200 annually for Tier 2 U.S. metro areas; geographic tiers range from $108,072 to $163,530. Equity and subsidized benefits are also offered.

Company

hirify.global builds ruggedized, modular, containerized data centers that deliver high-density AI compute to locations where traditional data centers cannot operate.

What you will do

  • Develop and maintain electrical designs for modular containerized data centers, including single-line diagrams, load calculations, panel schedules, grounding, cable sizing, and raceway layouts across 480 V and other international low-voltage systems.
  • Perform protective device coordination, arc flash, and short-circuit studies using SKM, ETAP, or equivalent, and produce field-ready labels and reports.
  • Review and redline vendor submittals for UPS and battery systems, cooling distribution units, switchgear, main distribution boards, PDUs, and generator/ATS packages.
  • Support manufacturing partners through RFI responses, layout and routing conflict resolution, factory witness testing, and vendor coordination.
  • Produce Statements of Requirements, design basis memoranda, block diagrams, and commissioning procedures while coordinating with mechanical, controls, structural, fire protection, and external engineering teams.
  • Support field commissioning and troubleshooting, including coordination with local Authorities Having Jurisdiction and occasional international travel.

Requirements

  • US citizenship.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program.
  • 3–7 years of post-degree electrical design experience, including at least 2 years in data centers, mission-critical facilities, industrial power, or equivalent complex power distribution.
  • Working knowledge of the NEC (NFPA 70); knowledge of IEC-based national codes is preferred, and multi-jurisdictional design experience is a strong plus.
  • Hands-on experience with protection coordination and arc flash software such as SKM PowerTools, ETAP, EasyPower, or similar.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical and/or Revit MEP and Bluebeam Revu or an equivalent submittal-markup tool.
  • Familiarity with UPS systems, including double-conversion topology, battery sizing, and parallel operation, as well as medium- and low-voltage switchgear, transformers, and generator/ATS integration.
  • Ability to read mechanical and structural drawings well enough to identify interdisciplinary conflicts before manufacturing.
  • Clear written communication skills for RFI responses, submittal reviews, and technical memoranda read by vendors and executives.

Nice to have

  • PE or EIT licensure; neither is required.
  • Experience with containerized or modular/prefabricated data center products.
  • Knowledge of high-density liquid-cooled GPU systems and related electrical requirements, including inrush, harmonics, rack-level power distribution, and busway.
  • Familiarity with battery chemistries beyond VRLA and lithium-ion and with UL 9540A or equivalent large-scale battery testing requirements.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70E, NFPA 75/76, NFPA 110, and NFPA 855 for mission-critical and energy-storage installations.
  • Experience coordinating with multiple AHJs and international insurance bodies on mission-critical approvals.
  • Exposure to BMS/DCIM integration, BACnet/Modbus, and the electrical aspects of controls handoffs.
  • Experience working with external manufacturing partners and consultants across multiple time zones.

Culture & Benefits

  • Remote work with collaboration across multiple time zones and occasional travel.
  • Ownership, autonomy, intellectual curiosity, and a results-oriented approach are valued.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage with subsidized costs.
  • Health savings accounts, flexible spending accounts, dependent care FSAs, and retirement plans including 401(k) and Roth 401(k).
  • Unlimited paid time off and 14 paid company holidays per year.
