Supervisor, Substation Owners Engineering (Substation Engineering)

Location: Hybrid in Oakland or Fresno, California, United States; remote office work is combined with the assigned location based on business needs, with a minimum of two office days per week.

Salary: California range $137,000–$232,000 annually; Bay Area range $144,000–$244,000 annually. The role is also eligible for discretionary incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Lead a team of consulting, senior, journey, and design engineers and engineering assistants supporting transmission and substation projects.
• Oversee contracted engineering and design work for electric substations, ensuring quality products are delivered on time and within cost requirements.
• Assign projects, forecast resource needs, balance internal and contracted workloads, and track project schedules, costs, milestones, and drawing control.
• Collaborate with Project Management, Operations, Maintenance, Construction, Transmission Line Engineering, and other departments on project scope, execution, and asset management.
• Develop and communicate performance metrics covering safety, design quality, financial performance, and schedule achievement.
• Coach and develop employees, improve design productivity and quality, support new technology adoption, and maintain contractor relationships and compliance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
• At least 1 year of experience in engineering with an electrical or substation emphasis.
• At least 5 years of experience in engineering or a related field.

Nice to have

• Two years of leadership experience in supervision or a lead role.
• Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Registered Electrical P.E.
• Transmission or substation engineering, design, and construction experience.
• Familiarity with PG&E standards and design processes.
• Familiarity with the ESC, Local 20 labor contract.
• Strong Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills.
• Familiarity with Clarity, MS Project, or Primavera P6 project scheduling tools.
