Senior Software Engineer - Full Stack (Vue)

Location: Olathe, Kansas, United States; on-site at Garmin’s U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area.

What you will do

• Provide technical leadership and project planning as an individual contributor for new products and applications.
• Develop client-side and server-side web applications using Java, Spring/Spring Boot, Vue, and other selected languages within an SDLC process.
• Develop and consume web services using a service-oriented architecture.
• Design or review software modules and systems supporting new technology or improving existing capability and performance.
• Work with stakeholders to define functional requirements, decompose them into tasks, research problems, and implement algorithmic solutions.
• Mentor less experienced Software Engineers, provide technical assessments, contribute to process improvements, and participate in rotating on-call support for Garmin’s 24/7 operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math, Physics, or a related field, plus at least 5 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 as a general rule.
• Programming experience with Java 11, 17, or 21+, Spring/Spring Boot dependency injection frameworks, Hibernate or OpenJPA, and Vue.
• Proficiency with JavaScript, TypeScript, and frontend frameworks such as Vue, Express, or React.
• Experience with relational or non-relational databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, Elasticsearch, or OpenSearch, including writing and optimizing complex SQL queries.
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Tekton, or ArgoCD; unit and integration testing; and version control systems such as Subversion or Git.
• Ability to design well-architected software systems and modules, research fundamental problems, implement algorithmic solutions, and lead complex software projects.
• Ability to decompose functional requirements into well-defined tasks while balancing quality, quantity, and complexity.
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; a positive, detail-oriented, organized, team-oriented, driven, and self-starting approach with the ability to prioritize and lead in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Nice to have

• Outstanding academics with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5.
• Experience with messaging or event-streaming systems such as RabbitMQ and Kafka.
• Experience with cloud-based development using Cloud Foundry, OpenShift, or Kubernetes.
