Backend Software Engineer

Location: Remote in Canada; requires residence in a US timezone.

Salary: CA$117,900–CA$153,925 base pay annually.

What you will do

• Build and ship features and capabilities for highly scalable, cross-geo distributed engineering environments.
• Design, implement, and maintain high-performing backend services and RESTful microservices.
• Review code with attention to readability, testing, documentation, reliability, security, and performance.
• Ensure visibility, error reporting, and monitoring for backend services.
• Participate in Agile software development, including daily stand-ups.
• Mentor teammates and share backend engineering expertise through formal and informal knowledge-sharing sessions.

Requirements

• 1–3+ years of experience building and developing backend applications.
• Experience crafting and implementing highly scalable and performant RESTful microservices.
• Proficiency in at least one modern object-oriented programming language, such as Java, Kotlin, Go, Scala, or Python.
• Fluency in at least one database technology, including RDBMS platforms such as Oracle or PostgreSQL and/or NoSQL platforms such as DynamoDB or Cassandra.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree; a Computer Science degree is preferred.
• Knowledge of SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS, with hands-on experience using public cloud offerings such as AWS, GAE, or Azure.
• Familiarity with cloud architecture patterns and an engineering discipline focused on software quality.
• Strong collaboration, interpersonal, and communication skills.
