Senior Backend Engineer (AI Spend)

Location: Hybrid in New York, NY, with remote options in Canada and the US. Relocation expense coverage is available to NYC or SF if needed.

Target base salary: $204,000–$280,000 annually, plus equity. Final compensation depends on location and hiring level.

What you will do

• Design and build backend services and APIs for AI spend visibility, attribution, insights, and controls.
• Build and improve integrations that ingest usage and billing data from AI and other supported providers.
• Transform provider data into useful structures for external customers and internal product consumers.
• Create reliable data models and processing workflows that make spend information accurate, traceable, and useful.
• Own projects from technical design through launch, monitoring, and iteration while improving reliability, performance, and observability.
• Partner with product, design, data, and engineering teams, and raise engineering standards through design reviews, code reviews, and mentorship.

Requirements

• Experience designing, building, and operating production backend systems, including APIs, data models, and asynchronous workflows.
• Strong judgment in system design, data correctness, reliability, and keeping solutions appropriately simple.
• Independent ownership of complex projects and delivery of high-quality software.
• Experience working with external data sources or integrations where data quality and changing interfaces matter.
• Comfort working through ambiguous product problems with cross-functional partners.
• Clear communication and a collaborative approach to technical decisions and feedback.

Nice to have

• Experience with usage metering, billing, spend management, or financial data products.
• Experience integrating with AI providers or other third-party usage and billing APIs.
• Experience building attribution, alerts, limits, or similar systems that help customers understand and manage spend.
