Senior Electrical Engineer (Medical Devices)

Location: Trumbull, CT, United States (On-site); site-based role with occasional travel for cross-functional meetings, vendor visits, training, and conferences.

Salary: $101,476–$135,301 per year.

What you will do

• Develop electrical and electronic architectures, circuit schematics, simulations, prototypes, and complex electromechanical systems for product upgrades, line extensions, and sustaining initiatives.
• Design, debug, test, and characterize electrical systems and PCB functional blocks, including systems compliant with 60601 EMC and safety requirements.
• Support firmware development by running and debugging code, implementing firmware changes in test environments, and integrating hardware and software.
• Drive medical-device Design Control activities, including design inputs, technical strategies, verification and validation approaches, formal test protocols, and verification reports.
• Lead cross-functional project work, manage project and workstream deliverables, and collaborate with suppliers, development partners, users, consultants, key opinion leaders, and executives.
• Coach team members, mentor interns and junior engineers, and improve the consistent global implementation of electrical engineering practices.

Requirements

• At least 4 years of closely related experience developing complex electrical systems, preferably in the medical device industry.
• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Extensive R&D experience with electronics in medical device development and fabrication of complex electromechanical, mechatronic, robotic, and/or IT-connected systems.
• Deep understanding of development approaches and strategies for complex medical-device programs, including electronics, PCB design, and medical-device manufacturing techniques.
• Advanced knowledge of electrical and electronics engineering, first-principles circuit calculations, and circuit simulations such as SPICE.
• Expertise in analog and digital circuit design and layout using tools such as Altium Schematic Capture.
• Strong hardware/software integration and hardware debugging experience using appropriate tools and laboratory instruments.
• Thorough understanding of medical-device Design Control guidelines and FDA, MDR, ISO, CSI, and other applicable standards; ability to translate user needs into design inputs, create verification protocols, perform verification testing, and publish verification reports.
• Hands-on experience building circuits, soldering, fixing, servicing, and/or fabricating concepts, fixtures, and prototypes; working knowledge of ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers, common peripherals, real-time operating systems such as FreeRTOS or Zephyr, and SPI, I2C, and CAN buses.
• Working knowledge of statistical methods including Design of Experiments, project management and related tools, programming and software development, analysis, problem solving, process discipline, and timely project completion.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for working with internal and external stakeholders.
