Staff Power Electronics Engineer (Aerospace)

Salary: $158,000–$189,000 per year.

What you will do

• Lead power system architecture development, derive subsystem requirements, and perform SWAP-C trade studies.
• Design DC-DC converters, power supplies, and power distribution systems from a few watts to more than 20 kW across 0.8 V to 400 V, as well as single-phase and three-phase AC-DC systems.
• Perform worst-case, stress, small-signal, FMEA, reliability, power integrity, EMC, thermal, isolation, grounding, and fault-tolerant design analyses.
• Develop verification plans, compliance matrices, integration and qualification plans, and production acceptance test plans.
• Lead board bring-up, laboratory testing, troubleshooting, system integration, qualification campaigns, and production release.
• Mentor junior engineers and lead a small power electronics team through project execution.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
• At least 8 years of experience designing analog and power electronics.
• Experience with electrical power systems and subsystems, power architecture and requirements, SWAP-C trade studies, converter topology selection, and power management and control blocks.
• Experience designing, testing, and qualifying single-phase and three-phase off-line AC-DC and DC-DC power supplies for industrial, airborne, or military systems.
• Knowledge of control theory and power electronics stability, including laboratory characterization of control loops and impedances.
• Experience designing low-noise power filters and power line EMC filters.
• Experience developing verification plans, compliance matrices, integration and qualification plans, and production acceptance test plans.
• Experience with WCA, stress analysis, FMEA, and reliability analysis for power supplies.
• Extensive hands-on experience testing and troubleshooting electronics and power converters with oscilloscopes, impedance analyzers, spectrum analyzers, electronic loads, and signal generators.
• Experience with SPICE, LTSPICE, SIMetrix/SIMPLIS, PLECS, Simulink, MATLAB, MathCAD, ANSYS Q3D and SiWave, or HyperLynx.
• Experience designing and testing power electronics units to automotive, industrial, aircraft, or military standards such as FCC, CISPR, UL, ECSS, NASA, or MIL standards.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with isolated and non-isolated DC-DC converters, including linear regulators, Buck, Boost, Buck-boost, Flyback, and Forward topologies.
• Experience designing or specifying custom power magnetics and power line filters.
• Knowledge of PFC converters, active rectifiers, soft switching, and resonant topologies such as LLC, CLLC, series resonant, phase-shifted full bridge, and dual active bridge.
• Experience creating vendor statements of work and requirements, selecting vendors, and managing vendors for power supply and rack developments.
• Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools such as Altium, OrCAD, Allegro, or Xpedition.
• Experience with board-level power integrity simulation using Ansys SiWave or HyperLynx.
• Programming skills for hardware testing and data processing, including Python or MATLAB.
