Senior Counsel Trial Attorney (Insurance Defense)

Annual base salary: $132,800–$219,100

What you will do

• Independently manage higher-exposure cases and complex insurance defense litigation from inception through trial and appeal.
• Try cases to verdict or negotiate resolutions using advanced litigation skills and techniques.
• Conduct legal research; draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other substantive legal documents.
• Attend court events, depositions, hearings, and other appointments, and provide case analysis and handling recommendations to insured clients and Claim partners.
• Collaborate with expert witnesses and consultants, maintain client and business partner relationships, and provide training and legal updates.
• Mentor attorneys and legal support staff, support office goals through special projects, use case management technology and automation, and travel as required.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate or equivalent international legal degree from an accredited law school.
• At least 7 years of experience as a practicing attorney, including insurance defense litigation experience.
• Active license in good standing to practice law in the state or states where representation is required.
• Regular experience handling hearings, trials, dispositive motion arguments, depositions, or other court proceedings, with the ability to travel to those meetings.
• A valid driver's license is required depending on the location.
• Proven experience litigating jury trials and achieving successful courtroom outcomes.
• Strong technical knowledge in the relevant practice areas, advanced oral and written advocacy, legal research, persuasive writing and presentation skills, and a record of summary judgment and/or appellate success.
• In-depth knowledge of the bench, bar, local jurisdictional practices, and adversaries.
• Strong collaboration, client service, leadership, mentoring, decision-making, negotiation, prioritization, attention to detail, responsiveness, flexibility, and willingness to take on new challenges.
