Senior Manager, Staff Counsel (Insurance Defense)

Location: Hybrid, West Orange, New Jersey; the position is also identified as remote and requires attendance at the business location, with travel for trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences.

Annual salary: $166,050–$260,350.

What you will do

• Manage staff counsel office activities and teams of attorneys and support staff handling liability, property damage, UM/UIM, and subrogation litigation.
• Represent hirify.global insureds and hirify.global in eligible lawsuits, trials, arbitrations, hearings, and related proceedings.
• Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, memoranda, pleadings, motions, discovery, depositions, and examinations under oath.
• Provide liability, damages, and valuation opinions to the Claims Department.
• Hire, evaluate, coach, train, supervise, and discipline attorneys and support staff as appropriate.
• Review office performance reports and implement improvements to timeliness, productivity, file quality, expense management, resolved ratios, and subrogation results.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree is required.
• License in good standing to practice law in applicable jurisdictions, with the ability to meet and maintain licensing and mandatory CLE requirements.
• At least 10 years of litigation experience, including insurance defense or personal injury.
• Management experience managing a team of attorneys and support staff.
• Successful experience handling primary trial responsibility for cases of significant severity and complexity.
• Ability to travel as required for trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences.
• Ability to communicate professionally in person, by telephone, and in written correspondence; document files clearly and concisely.
• Ability to follow complex instructions, resolve or facilitate conflict resolution, organize priorities, and multitask.
• Ability to perform the essential physical and cognitive functions of the role, with or without accommodation.
