Lead Consultant - Functional Safety (Automotive)

Location: Home-based in the United States, with travel expectations to customer sites and other UL locations.

Estimated salary: $120,000–$145,000 per year, plus annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 10% of base salary.

What you will do

• Lead the development and review of functional safety work products for vehicle programs, including electric and autonomous vehicle platforms, industrial automation equipment, and battery and energy storage systems.
• Develop safety argumentation and contribute to safety cases with evidence-based justification of system, hardware, and software safety concepts.
• Create or support hazard and risk analyses and develop functional, technical, hardware, and software safety concepts.
• Define and decompose safety requirements and align them with safety mechanisms, diagnostic concepts, and architectural metrics.
• Lead safety analyses including HARA, FMEA, FMEDA, DFA, FTA, and STPA across electronic hardware, power electronics, battery systems, and L2–L4 automated driving applications.
• Lead verification reviews, confirmation measures, technical assessments, workshops, training, client meetings, business development activities, Statements of Work, and budgetary estimates.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in a safety-related role in automotive functional safety.
• Hands-on electronics system, hardware, and software product design and development experience with a strong focus on the safety development lifecycle.
• Experience working with ISO 26262 and ISO 21448 standards.
• Knowledge of safety analyses including HARA, STPA, FTA, FMEA, FMEDA, and DFA.
• B.S. or M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
