Senior Functional Safety Engineer (Autonomous Vehicles)

Location: Mountain View, California, or Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. Hybrid work with at least 3 days per week in the office.

Salary: $162,000–$260,000 per year for Mountain View roles; $146,000–$234,000 per year for Pittsburgh roles. Annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits are also available.

What you will do

• Contribute to functional safety engineering for autonomous vehicle software.
• Perform safety analyses of system products to identify architectural and design vulnerabilities.
• Derive technical and software safety requirements for safety-critical subsystems.
• Help define functional safety concepts and fault-management approaches across the full software stack.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to communicate findings, build consensus, and execute safety processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, machine learning, or an equivalent field.
• At least 3 years of experience as a systems engineer, safety engineer, or software engineer working on a safety-critical product.
• Experience with software-architecture-level safety analysis, design trade studies, and design proposals.
• Experience establishing and executing software development best practices.
• Strong communication, presentation, organization, and collaboration skills in large, complex teams.
• Ability to work effectively with ambiguity and changing priorities.

Nice to have

• Proficiency in Python, C, or C++.
• Experience with complex robotics or autonomous systems.
• Experience with machine learning.
• Experience leading a technical area.
• Working knowledge of ISO 26262 or software functional safety development.
