Public Affairs Advisor

Location: Hybrid in the San Francisco Bay Area; candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, or Sonoma counties. Office attendance is expected 1–2 days per week.

Base salary: $192,000–$216,000 USD per year, plus eligibility for equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Help shape and execute a global external affairs strategy involving policymakers, regulators, civil society, academics, and industry partners.
• Build and manage strategic partnerships aligned with clear policy and business objectives, measure their impact, and report outcomes to leadership.
• Own Discord’s headquarters visit program for policymakers, government officials, and other key stakeholders.
• Lead external events, policy research initiatives, cross-regional campaigns, and other special projects.
• Develop briefing books, talking points, presentations, partnership proposals, and event programming.
• Own Public Policy team budgets and related operational projects.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in public policy, public affairs, and/or civil society partnerships.
• Experience owning and executing a multi-year public affairs or partnership program.
• Experience building and managing partnerships with civil society, academic experts, and industry leaders across multiple regions.
• Track record of planning and executing high-level visits, delegations, or events for senior government officials and executives.
• Familiarity with technology policy issues.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, especially executive briefings, with the ability to translate complex technical information into clear, compelling narratives for non-technical audiences.
• Strong project management skills and the judgment to manage multiple workstreams, stakeholders, and deadlines.
