Community Engagement Manager (Data Centers)

Location: Remote-friendly, United States; based in New York or willing to relocate there. Regular travel across New York State, including upstate communities, is required for up to 50% of the time. Staff are expected to work from an Anthropic office at least 25% of the time.

What you will do

• Build sustained relationships with local and state officials, planning and zoning boards, economic development organizations, community groups, labor organizations, educational institutions, and workforce partners.
• Develop and execute community engagement strategies across data center site selection, pre-development, construction, and ongoing operations.
• Host education and listening sessions, build external coalitions, and design solutions that deliver benefits to local communities.
• Represent Anthropic at public forums, town halls, planning hearings, community events, and local media engagements.
• Advise policy, infrastructure, real estate, communications, energy, and sustainability teams on community sentiment, political dynamics, risks, and opportunities.
• Coordinate charitable giving, community investment, economic development commitments, environmental communications, and scalable community engagement processes.

Requirements

• Experience in community affairs, public affairs, economic development, government relations, local or state government, or a related field.
• Direct experience engaging local governments and diverse stakeholders on large infrastructure, construction, energy, or technology projects.
• Strong relationship-building, coalition-building, written communication, verbal communication, and public representation skills.
• Ability to explain complex operational plans in clear language and manage multiple engagements across different markets.
• Based in New York or willing to relocate to New York, with regular regional travel.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, or experience in a relevant field.

Nice to have

• 7+ years of community engagement experience involving data centers, utilities, energy, large-scale industrial infrastructure, or local government.
• Knowledge of New York land use, zoning, permitting, SEQRA environmental review, and industrial development agency incentive approvals.
• Experience with corporate social responsibility programs and relationships with economic development, workforce, labor, or civic organizations.
• Experience working with real estate, legal, communications, and policy teams, or engaging with Native nations in New York.
