Principal Signal Integrity Engineer (Storage)

Location: Hybrid, with an average requirement of 2 days per week in an HPE office; available in Colorado Springs, Colorado, or Durham, North Carolina, United States.

Salary: Annual base salary of USD 147,000–279,000 in Colorado and USD 140,000–321,000 in North Carolina and Texas. Variable incentives may also be offered.

What you will do

• Define SI/PI strategy, methodologies, design standards, PCB stack-up strategies, routing methods, and validation approaches across storage hardware platforms.
• Lead signal and power integrity architecture for next-generation storage systems from concept through production, including high-speed SerDes interfaces.
• Develop simulation, modelling, automation, and validation methods to improve engineering productivity, design quality, and predictability.
• Lead cross-functional technical reviews, root-cause investigations, and resolution of complex SI/PI, timing, electromagnetic, field, validation, and manufacturing issues.
• Partner with PCB, mechanical, thermal, and system architects to optimize end-to-end electrical performance and evaluate emerging technologies.
• Mentor engineers, influence technical roadmaps, serve as the final escalation point for critical SI/PI decisions, and contribute to patents, publications, and industry engagement.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• 15+ years of experience in signal integrity, power integrity, package design, PCB design, and high-speed system architecture.
• Recognized expertise in high-speed digital system design, including electromagnetic theory, transmission lines, crosstalk, loss mechanisms, jitter, equalization, and channel optimization.
• Extensive experience architecting and validating high-speed systems using advanced SerDes technologies and complex storage platforms.
• Proven success leading SI/PI strategies across multiple large-scale product developments from concept through production.
• Expertise in time-domain, frequency-domain, statistical, BER, and electromagnetic SI/PI simulation methodologies.
• Deep expertise with Synopsys HSPICE, Keysight ADS, Ansys HFSS, SIwave, PowerSI, and Cadence design environments.
• Extensive experience defining PCB stack-ups, design constraints, routing architectures, power distribution networks, and signal integrity requirements for high-volume products.
• Hands-on expertise with VNAs, TDRs, high-bandwidth oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and compliance test equipment.
• Ability to correlate simulation results with laboratory measurements and improve modelling accuracy and design predictability, with strong understanding of interactions among SI, PI, thermal performance, EMC, and manufacturability.
