Staff Software Engineer (Cybersecurity)

Location: Remote - Canada

Annual base salary: CA$147.5K–CA$188K, excluding discretionary bonus; equity and bonus offered.

What you will do

• Deliver business-critical product outcomes and own end-to-end user experiences for the cybersecurity platform.
• Lead projects across TypeScript, React, Node.js services, Kubernetes, platform infrastructure, and data pipelines.
• Define architecture for data ingestion, modeling, storage, orchestration, and onboarding new data domains into product-facing services.
• Strengthen observability through metrics, data lineage, SLAs/SLOs, and alerting.
• Optimize systems for performance, scalability, and resiliency while leading complex cross-functional projects and mentoring engineers.
• Evaluate and implement responsible AI-powered tools and practices for development, testing, delivery, and observability.

Requirements

• 10+ years of industry experience in software or platform engineering, delivering scalable, high-performance systems in fast-paced, enterprise-level environments.
• Proficiency with React and TypeScript, including modern front-end architecture, design patterns, and best practices.
• Strong Node.js backend development experience and experience building and maintaining microservices architectures on Kubernetes.
• AWS cloud infrastructure and operations experience.
• Experience with Kafka, Spark Structured Streaming, data streaming, event-driven processing, and distributed ETL or batch processing.
• Experience designing and consuming secure, scalable, high-performance REST, GraphQL, or gRPC APIs.
• Strong database design, performance tuning, and indexing experience across SQL databases such as PostgreSQL and MySQL, NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, and modern table formats such as Iceberg and Parquet.
• Hands-on CI/CD experience with Jenkins, GitLab, or similar tools, including automated testing, deployment, and service scaling.
• Deep understanding of security best practices, API security, sensitive data handling, authentication, and authorization using OAuth and JWT.
• Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools while maintaining code quality, security review, and architectural integrity; experience in Agile development, sprint planning, analytical problem-solving, and cross-functional leadership.
• Strong desire to work in a fast-paced startup environment with multiple releases per day.

Nice to have

• Experience with BI semantic layers, medallion architectures, or graph and search systems such as Trino or Presto.
• Background in cybersecurity, SIEM, or event-driven systems.
• Experience with internationalization and localization frameworks.
• Experience evaluating and integrating LLM-based capabilities or AI features into production SaaS products.
• Familiarity with Agile Scrum.
