Staff Fullstack Engineer - Platform - App Core Usage | Canada | Remote

Location: Remote in Canada or the United States; preference for candidates in NASA’s Eastern Time zone to provide overlap with EMEA colleagues. In-person onboarding is expected.

Compensation in Canada: $186,368–$223,642 CAD, plus RSUs. The defined compensation range may vary by location, level, experience, and skills.

What you will do

• Design, build, operate, and improve backend services and APIs for billing, rates, usage calculations, usage visibility, and cloud marketplace workflows.
• Develop primarily in Go, contribute to Node.js services and TypeScript/React applications, and deliver complete features across the stack.
• Improve billing and usage correctness through validation, reconciliation, error handling, recovery, auditability, and traceability.
• Maintain Kubernetes workloads, scheduled jobs, cloud resources, deployment configuration, infrastructure as code, and automated delivery pipelines.
• Investigate production issues across application code, databases, and infrastructure; plan deployments, database changes, migrations, monitoring, and recovery.
• Collaborate with product management, Support, DealOps, GTM, infrastructure teams, and adjacent squads; provide technical leadership through design discussions, code reviews, mentoring, and on-call participation.

Requirements

• Substantial experience designing, delivering, and operating production backend systems, with the depth and judgment to lead complex work hands-on.
• Strong professional experience building and operating production backend systems in Go.
• Professional experience contributing to frontend applications with TypeScript and React or comparable technologies, with willingness to work across the stack.
• Experience with distributed systems, including partial failures, retries, consistency, and service interactions.
• Experience with relational databases, including data modelling, schema migrations, query performance, and safe production changes.
• Practical experience deploying and troubleshooting containerised services and jobs in Kubernetes, managing cloud infrastructure through code, and working with CI/CD pipelines, environment configuration, and controlled rollouts.
• Ability to investigate production problems using logs, metrics, and traces and turn findings into lasting improvements.
• Record of delivering projects end to end, clarifying requirements, making trade-offs, following through after release, and writing readable, well-tested software.
• Experience working remotely with clear asynchronous communication across time zones; ability to learn unfamiliar domains, take ownership beyond the main area of expertise, participate in on-call, and support colleagues through reviews, mentoring, and technical discussions.

Nice to have

• Experience with usage metering, billing engines, pricing and rates, financial reconciliation, or customer-facing cost management applications.
• Experience reducing operational toil, automating recurring exceptions, and working with auditability, traceability, or financial-control requirements.
• MySQL operations, replication, database upgrades, and performance tuning.
• Terraform, Jsonnet, Kubernetes deployment configuration, Argo Workflows, or comparable orchestration tooling.
• Cloud infrastructure involving managed databases, object storage, service accounts, and access controls, particularly on GCP.
• Data synchronisation pipelines, BigQuery integrations, and cloud marketplace integrations across AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Integrations with NetSuite or Salesforce and observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, or OpenTelemetry.
