Staff Software Engineer (Healthcare)

Location: San Francisco, United States; hybrid with three full days in the office per week

Annual salary: $197.6K–$296.4K, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Own the architecture for member enrollment and onboarding from registration through clinical questionnaires, acceptance, and baseline exercise calibration.
• Lead full-stack development across NestJS services, GraphQL BFF, React web, and React Native.
• Design durable, observable, multi-step workflows with Temporal, including retry, idempotency, versioning, and failure handling.
• Build server-driven questionnaires and calibration experiences so clinical and product teams can update content without app releases.
• Improve enrollment funnel completion through instrumentation and experimentation with Product, Design, Data Science, and User Research.
• Lead legacy migrations, protect PHI, mentor engineers, contribute to code and design reviews, and participate in weekly on-call rotation.

Requirements

• 5+ years of non-internship, full-time professional software engineering experience.
• End-to-end delivery of complex user-facing products across mobile or web clients and backend services.
• 3+ years of TypeScript or JavaScript across the stack, including Node.js with NestJS or similar and React or React Native.
• Production experience with durable workflows or long-running state orchestration such as Temporal, Cadence, Step Functions, or an equivalent state machine.
• 2+ years mentoring or leading engineers and partnering with Product, Design, and Data.
• Hybrid attendance in the San Francisco office is required three days per week.

Nice to have

• Production experience with NestJS, GraphQL, PostgreSQL, Kafka, and Temporal.
• Experience with server-driven UI, dynamic forms, survey engines, and configuration-driven mobile presentation.
• Signup, onboarding, intake, or application flows measured by completion rate.
• Legacy-system migration, critical-path experimentation, or healthcare and other regulated, data-sensitive domain experience.
• Staff-level individual contributor experience shaping technical direction without direct reports.
