TL;DR
Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer (Automotive AI): Designing and optimizing deterministic real-time firmware for software-defined vehicle platforms with an accent on C/C++, BSPs, hardware interfaces, RTOS environments, and functional safety. Focus on hardware bring-up, low-level debugging, real-time performance characterization, MISRA compliance, and ISO 26262 execution on automotive microcontrollers.

Location: Sunnyvale, United States; hands-on hardware bring-up is performed in the Sunnyvale electronics and vehicle labs.

Salary: $175,000–$248,000 annually.

Company

hirify.global is a mobility AI company and the Global Software Center of Hyundai Motor Group, developing software-defined vehicle technologies and autonomous urban transportation systems.

What you will do

  • Architect, develop, and maintain embedded firmware, including BSPs, peripheral drivers, communication stacks, and application-layer logic in C/C++.
  • Write deterministic, defensive code aligned with MISRA C and ISO 26262 functional safety guidelines, targeting ASIL-D practices and zero critical static-analysis violations.
  • Configure and optimize RTOS environments such as FreeRTOS, SafeRTOS, and AUTOSAR OS, including scheduling, ISRs, IPC, memory allocation, and timing constraints.
  • Lead prototype-board bring-up and characterize execution performance, interrupt latency, power usage, and resource management.
  • Debug hardware/software interaction issues with JTAG/SWD debuggers, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers, Vector CANoe, and Wireshark.
  • Collaborate with hardware, systems, and V&V teams on interface definitions, bench testing, target-microcontroller validation, and host-side tooling using Python or shell scripting.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of hands-on embedded software engineering experience delivering production-grade firmware for resource-constrained platforms in automotive, aerospace, medical devices, industrial robotics, or consumer electronics.
  • Expert-level embedded C and C++ proficiency, including pointers, memory management, concurrency, data structures, compiler behavior, and debugging optimized code.
  • Production RTOS experience covering task scheduling, synchronization, interrupt handling, inter-task communication, resource management, and timing analysis.
  • Required experience with static-analysis tools such as Coverity, Polyspace, QAC, Cppcheck, or equivalent, including triaging findings, correcting defects, and managing justified suppressions.
  • Understanding of MCU architectures such as ARM Cortex-M/R and TriCore, bare-metal and RTOS abstractions, register-level driver development, and CAN/CAN-FD, SPI, I2C, and Ethernet protocols.
  • Hands-on experience bringing up new silicon or PCBs and using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and bus analyzers to isolate low-level bugs.
  • Working knowledge of regulated safety frameworks such as ISO 26262, IEC 62304, or DO-178C, with trace-to-requirements discipline.
  • Proficiency with Git, Bazel, and CI/CD pipelines for automated firmware compilation, static analysis, and testing.

Nice to have

  • Automotive protocol and stack experience with ISO 14229, UDS, SOME/IP, DoIP, or automotive Ethernet.
  • Experience with multi-core microcontrollers, Hardware Security Modules, or secure boot.
  • Python or C++ experience for developer tools, HIL automation, or build infrastructure.
  • Experience with MISRA C, MISRA C++, CERT C/C++, or comparable coding standards.
  • Experience designing, implementing, integrating, or debugging communication protocols, including serialization, state machines, error handling, fault recovery, and interoperability testing.
  • Production object-oriented software development experience with encapsulation, interface design, composition, and suitable design patterns.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work on safety-first, user-centric software-defined vehicle technologies.
  • Collaborate across hardware design, systems engineering, and verification and validation functions.
  • Work in a Sunnyvale electronics and vehicle lab environment with prototype hardware.
  • Employment preference is given to qualified candidates under applicable U.S. veterans' preference laws.
  • Qualified individuals with disabilities receive consideration under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • hirify.global is an equal opportunity employer committed to an inclusive workplace.

Hiring process

  • Application review.
  • Coding test, first interview, and second interview.
  • Offer negotiation followed by hiring; screening steps may vary by position and circumstances.
