Software Engineer (AI)

Location: On-site in San Jose, United States; fully in-person team. Relocation support is available for those moving to San Jose.

Estimated base salary: $200K–$250K per year, plus equity.

What you will do

• Design, develop, maintain, and test simulations of custom hardware, ensuring accuracy, efficient debugging, and strong performance.
• Influence architectural decisions through design reviews and hardware-software co-design.
• Create and maintain test plans and collaborate with hardware teams to validate documentation.
• Build tools that debug simulations and enable developers to debug software running on the simulator.
• Implement simulations of on-chip modules and integrate simulated chips with simulated hosts such as QEMU.
• Support kernel driver development, host software testing, multi-chip scale-out and scale-up validation, and debugging of early software deliverables.

Requirements

• Proficiency in C/C++.
• Strong understanding of low-level software engineering.
• Strong understanding of hardware engineering.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Experience developing hardware or system simulations, including SystemC, gem5, QEMU, or custom frameworks.
• Experience with custom ML hardware accelerators such as Google TPU.
• Experience with firmware, kernel, and driver development, including Linux or FreeRTOS.
• Experience with hardware development and verification.
• Experience with multiprocessing and multithreading.
• Familiarity with bit-accurate numerics modeling.
• Experience with performance profiling and simulation-code optimization.
• Proficiency with Python for test harness development, Bazel, and Git.
