Senior Embedded Software Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Los Angeles, CA, USA; in-person collaboration at the Playa Vista office.

Salary: $185,000–$210,000 per year for the Senior level; Staff range: $200,000–$250,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

• Develop low-level software for processor peripherals and communication interfaces across spacecraft avionics.
• Write and debug device drivers for sensors, actuators, and other bus components.
• Implement onboard algorithms, including closed-loop control and fault detection and response.
• Build iterative testing code as well as rigorously reviewed and tested software for manufacturing and flight.
• Provide embedded software input for new system and hardware designs, including hardware/software integration.
• Support spacecraft commissioning during launch and early operations.

Requirements

• U.S. Person status or the ability to obtain required export authorizations is required because the role involves export-controlled data.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
• 8+ years of C/C++ development for embedded systems and 3+ years of flight software experience.
• Firmware development for microcontrollers using bare-metal environments or an RTOS.
• Low-level device-driver development and debugging over SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet, and CAN.
• Hardware/software integration skills, including schematic reading, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and knowledge of memory, buses, and DMA.

Nice to have

• FPGA development experience.
• Experience bringing up avionics or flight hardware from first power-on.
• Satellite attitude control systems experience, including reaction wheels, magnetorquers, or small thrusters.
• Experience with motors, power electronics, encoders, or current monitors.
• Familiarity with CCSDS and ECSS satellite systems and protocols.
