Senior Design Engineer (Temporary Works)

Location: Any UK office location with a mixture of office and home working; flexible base in Farnborough, Bristol, or Hemel Hempstead.

What you will do

• Provide or supervise safe, practical, and economical temporary works designs and technical support for internal clients.
• Represent the Temporary Works Centre of Excellence at internal and external meetings and liaise with departments, project teams, and bid teams.
• Act as Lead Designer or equivalent on specific projects and bids, including coordinating design requirements and reviewing design work.
• Prepare or supervise conceptual and detailed designs, including calculations, design risk assessments, sketches, quantities, and pricing information.
• Arrange and undertake site visits and assurance audits, maintain design task data, and ensure compliance with procedures, standards, and codes.
• Supervise, coach, mentor, and train staff, support performance reviews, deliver graduate tutorials, and implement departmental improvements.

Requirements

• Demonstrable experience in civil engineering design for structures commonly required by BAM UK&I, including one or more of earthworks, earth-retaining structures, foundations, structural steelwork, façade retention, reinforced concrete, timber, and formwork or falsework.
• Proven experience and expertise using a range of civil or structural engineering design and analysis software, draughting, and modelling packages.
• Demonstrable experience in construction methods and processes, digital construction processes, and commercial management.
• Degree in Civil Engineering or a related subject.
• Chartered membership of ICE and/or IStructE, an accepted alternative professional institution, or demonstrable experience and responsibility at least equivalent to a Chartered Engineer.
• Experience within a design team.

• Construction site or project experience.
• Experience with modern methods of construction, such as DfMA.
• Experience in training and coaching.
