Principal Design Engineer (Temporary Works)

Location: Solihull, United Kingdom; flexibility to be based from the Leeds, Manchester, Kilsyth, or Birmingham office depending on location and preference. Site visits, technical reviews, and assurance activities are required as needed.

What you will do

• Lead the delivery of temporary works design solutions across a diverse portfolio of complex construction projects.
• Provide technical leadership, supervision, and mentoring to engineers and designers.
• Act as a lead contact for projects, bids, and key stakeholders.
• Review and check designs for compliance with standards, procedures, and best practice.
• Support technical governance, design assurance, quality management, resource planning, project delivery, and commercial performance.
• Drive innovation, digital engineering, continuous improvement, technical training, and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• Degree qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent professional status.
• Extensive experience in temporary works and structural/civil engineering design.
• Strong knowledge of construction methods and temporary works solutions.
• Proficiency in engineering analysis and design software.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and delivering complex engineering projects.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience in design assurance and technical governance.
• Knowledge of BS 5975 and temporary works management processes.

Nice to have

• Experience with Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) and Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA).
• Experience coaching, mentoring, and developing engineers.
