Sr. Database Administrator I (PostgreSQL)

Location: Washington, DC; Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, DC (JBAB). Employment eligibility verification in the United States is required.

Salary: $138,000–$175,000 annually, plus potential performance-based bonuses and additional incentives.

What you will do

• Design, administer, optimize, and troubleshoot PostgreSQL databases in on-premises and cloud environments.
• Perform performance tuning, backups, replication, recovery, high-availability, and disaster-recovery operations.
• Manage schemas, indexes, stored procedures, permissions, access controls, auditing, governance, retention, encryption, and key management.
• Manage Kubernetes clusters and support containerized database and application operations.
• Administer CI/CD pipelines and automation for database deployments, schema changes, validation, and maintenance.
• Participate in Agile delivery, support production operations, communicate technical risks, and maintain customer trust.

Requirements

• Active Top Secret clearance with current or previously held SCI access.
• At least 8 years of hands-on database administration or engineering experience, with PostgreSQL as the primary platform.
• At least 2 years of experience using GitLab CI/CD or GitHub Actions for database deployments, schema changes, validation, or maintenance automation.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred; relevant experience may substitute.
• Certification meeting applicable DoD 8140 requirements, such as Security+, GSEC, or higher.
• Enterprise production experience designing, implementing, managing, troubleshooting, and tuning PostgreSQL databases.
• Extensive Ubuntu/Linux administration experience, including configuration, patching, security hardening, troubleshooting, and performance tuning for PostgreSQL production workloads.
• Experience designing, implementing, and managing distributed PostgreSQL environments and high-availability architectures, including replication, clustering, failover, and troubleshooting across database nodes.
• Hands-on ownership of PostgreSQL high availability, backup, recovery, disaster recovery, encryption, key management, access controls, and compliance-aligned auditing.
• Ability to independently own core PostgreSQL responsibilities from day one and quickly learn program-specific tooling in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.
