Database Reliability Engineer (DBRE) (MySQL/PostgreSQL/Redis)

Compensation: United States $174.2K–$261.2K, Canada CA$174.2K–CA$261.2K, United Kingdom £109.4K–£164.2K, or Spain €112.2K–€168.4K, plus equity and bonus eligibility.

What you will do

• Own the reliability of Redis Enterprise and AWS ElastiCache, including capacity planning, failover, upgrades, and healthy cache usage.
• Operate MySQL, PostgreSQL, and caching infrastructure, participate in production on-call, and escalate data-layer incidents.
• Manage database and cache infrastructure as code by evolving Terraform modules and provisioning workflows.
• Build internal platform standards, templates, dashboards, alerts, SLOs, and observability for scalable and secure data systems.
• Improve performance and resilience, advise on engine selection, caching architecture, schema design, query patterns, and capacity planning.
• Lead design reviews, mentor engineers, document practices, and grow the DBRE discipline.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of experience in systems administration, systems engineering, or software development, including at least 4 years running production relational databases.
• Deep expertise in MySQL or PostgreSQL and working knowledge of the other, including its ecosystem of extensions and tools.
• Strong understanding of caching with Redis, including design, operation at scale, and tradeoffs between caching and the underlying database.
• Experience designing and maintaining highly available, cloud-based database systems in AWS or another cloud platform.
• Experience managing infrastructure with Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tooling.
• Comfort operating stateful services alongside Kubernetes or other distributed systems and understanding the related data-workload tradeoffs.
• Experience implementing metrics, logging, and alerting with tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, or CloudWatch, including monitoring query performance, replication lag, and cache hit rates.
• Ability to partner with product teams, provide design guidance with tradeoffs, support production systems, document technical knowledge, and mentor engineers.
• Ability to automate repetitive work, build tools and backend services, investigate application code, and use AI tools responsibly for automation, query analysis, runbooks, and incident investigation.
