General Ledger Accountant (German GAAP)

Location: Frankfurt (Eschborn), Germany; full-time onsite position.

What you will do

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements under German GAAP, HGB, and IFRS.
• Manage general ledger activities, account assignments, transaction recording, reconciliations, and closing entries.
• Investigate discrepancies, incorrect or duplicate postings, balance-sheet and profit-and-loss variances, and coordinate corrections.
• Handle provisions, accruals, prepayments, intercompany accounting, fixed-asset accounting, and group-wide closing support.
• Work with internal and external auditors and prepare closing documentation, explanatory reports, and audit work papers.
• Respond to accounting requests, resolve operational issues, improve processes, and maintain compliance with the Internal Control System.

Requirements

• Completed commercial apprenticeship or degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of relevant professional accounting experience; candidates with slightly less experience may be considered with broad, hands-on accounting exposure.
• Practical knowledge of German GAAP and HGB, with experience supporting monthly, quarterly, or annual closing activities.
• Experience with balance-sheet reconciliations, accruals, provisions, prepayments, closing entries, and investigating accounting discrepancies.
• Understanding of intercompany accounting and ability to analyze balance-sheet and profit-and-loss movements.
• Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, for preparing, reviewing, and analyzing accounting reports.
• Good German at B2 level or above and strong professional English at C1 level or above, written and spoken; comfortable working with German-language financial information.
• Ability to independently investigate accounting issues, assess underlying causes, and collaborate on appropriate solutions.
• Attention to detail, personal accountability, accuracy, and ability to meet demanding closing timelines in a hands-on international accounting environment.

• Certified accountant qualification.
• Working knowledge of IFRS and experience supporting group-reporting requirements.
• Experience with SAP, ideally SAP S/4HANA.
• Experience supporting external or internal audits and preparing audit documentation.
• Knowledge of German tax and regulatory requirements.
• Experience with fixed-asset accounting.
• Experience in an international or multi-entity accounting organization.
• Accounts payable or accounts receivable experience combined with exposure to closing, reconciliations, and broader accounting activities.
