Solicitor - Motor Role (Insurance Defence Litigation)

Location: Belfast; hybrid workplace.

What you will do

• Progress motor insurance defence litigation matters in line with client instructions and commercial objectives.
• Build and develop an individual caseload while identifying next steps and discussing them with the Lead Lawyer.
• Interview witnesses, draft statements, pleadings, applications, and professional written communications.
• Liaise with insured parties, insurers, witnesses, clients, colleagues, third parties, counsel, and experts.
• Instruct counsel and attend conferences, JSMs, mediations, courts, trials, and settlement conferences remotely, by telephone, or in person.
• Meet performance and quality standards, maintain accurate case management information, and comply with LSNI regulations.

Requirements

• Qualified solicitor status or proven relevant legal experience is essential.
• Understanding of case law, litigation practice and process, and Court Practice Rules.
• Good telephone advocacy and advocacy skills.
• Excellent listening, verbal, written communication, interpersonal, and client-care skills.
• Ability to plan and prioritise workloads, meet deadlines, work under pressure, analyse information, maintain attention to detail, weigh facts, apply the law, and make decisions.
• Ability to anticipate problems, identify solutions, take initiative, adapt to changing situations, follow instructions, and provide clear direction and guidance to junior team members.
• Ability to recognise when sensitivity and tact are required and to work effectively within a team.
• Proficient IT skills, including Word, Excel, and Office.

• Experience of indemnity, liability, and quantum.
• Experience with cases involving complex medical issues.
