Costs Draftsperson (Personal Injury)

Location: Hybrid, Newcastle office; two positions are available across the Manchester and Newcastle offices, United Kingdom.

Salary: £33,710 per year.

What you will do

• Manage a personal injury costs caseload from inception through conclusion, covering RTA, Employers’ Liability, Public Liability, and disease claims.
• Prepare Formal Bills of Costs, Statements of Costs (N260s), Estimates, and Costs Budgets (Precedent H).
• Negotiate and settle costs claims, draft Replies to Points of Dispute, and assist with Detailed Assessment proceedings.
• Advise fee earners on costs recovery prospects and strategy, and coordinate assessment bundles and advocates where required.
• Attend Detailed Assessment and other costs-related hearings while maintaining accurate diary management and meeting court deadlines.
• Work with fee earners and colleagues to maximise costs recovery and stay current with developments in costs law, procedure, and case law.

Requirements

• Previous experience managing an independent personal injury costs caseload.
• Strong knowledge of Fast Track and Multi Track costs recovery processes.
• Experience drafting Bills of Costs and conducting negotiations on costs matters.
• Good understanding of the Civil Procedure Rules and costs-related case law.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with confident and effective negotiation abilities.
• Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Outlook and Word.
