Senior Legal Counsel (Fintech)

What you will do

• Own the legal function, assess material legal exposures, review key contracts and employment matters, and establish a prioritised legal plan with escalation thresholds.
• Set up legal intake and triage processes with service levels, a contract register, approved templates and negotiation playbooks.
• Draft and negotiate commercial agreements, including NDAs, and advise People and leadership on employment matters, employee cases and settlements.
• Partner with Compliance on FCA requirements, Consumer Duty, SM&CR, outsourcing, product decisions and organisational change.
• Advise on UK GDPR, DPA 2018 and PECR, including data-processing terms, transfers and incident response.
• Manage disputes and external counsel, oversee external legal spend, review shareholder and employee equity-option documentation, and report material legal risks to leadership and the Board.

Requirements

• Qualified solicitor in England & Wales, or equivalently qualified with demonstrable UK legal expertise.
• Senior legal experience with the breadth and judgement to own an in-house legal function.
• Hands-on experience across employment, commercial and contract law, regulatory and governance matters, data privacy, and disputes.
• Working knowledge of NDAs, shareholder agreements and equity-option arrangements.
• Ability to provide concise, decision-ready advice and constructively challenge senior stakeholders.
• Comfort working hands-on with limited resources and using external advisers selectively.
• English fluency at C1 level or above.
