Employment Counsel, Americas (Fintech)

Location: Hybrid work from the San Francisco, New York, or Seattle office on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays

Salary: $130K–$200K base annually, plus potential equity and bonus

What you will do

• Advise People & Talent and business leaders on US employment law and coordinate guidance across multiple jurisdictions.
• Advise on contractor and employer-of-record classification, cross-border remote work, mobility exposure, and regulated-entity employment matters.
• Build employment playbooks, templates, policies, and manager guidance for consistent employee-matter handling.
• Lead workplace investigations, employment disputes, agency charges, litigation, and external counsel management.
• Support hiring, contracts, performance management, accommodations, leaves, wage and hour compliance, compensation, benefits, equity, and terminations.

Requirements

• J.D. degree or foreign equivalent and active membership in at least one US state bar; California, Washington, or New York admission is preferred.
• 5+ years of employment law experience in a leading law firm or in-house legal department.
• Experience advising across multiple jurisdictions and leading workplace investigations, disputes, agency charges, or tribunal matters.
• Experience across the employee lifecycle, including hiring, contracts, performance management, accommodations, leaves, wage and hour compliance, and terminations.
• Ability to provide clear, concise, commercially practical guidance under time pressure and operate independently in a fast-moving environment.
• Fluent English required; additional languages are a bonus.

Nice to have

• Experience in fintech, payments, or another highly regulated business.
• Experience with contractor classification, employer-of-record populations, cross-border remote work, or permanent establishment risk.
• Experience with California Labor Code matters, immigration, restructuring, RIF execution, works councils, or statutory employee representation.
• Experience advising on compensation, benefits, and equity in a private-company environment.
