Legal Counsel (Fintech)

Location: Hybrid in Sydney or Melbourne, Australia; most teams meet in the office 2–3 days per week.

Salary: AUD 153,544–171,970 per year.

Klarna builds an everyday finance network serving consumers and merchants across multiple international markets, with products spanning payments and shopping.

What you will do

• Advise Klarna’s Australian and New Zealand businesses on licensing obligations, regulatory change, and information requests.
• Provide day-to-day commercial advice on partnerships, marketing arrangements, subsidies, incentives, and other business matters.
• Draft, review, and negotiate merchant, partner, vendor, services, addenda, and variation agreements.
• Prepare and lodge ASIC forms and notifications while maintaining company registers and records.
• Support director and shareholder resolutions, market launches, contract hygiene, and other APAC legal matters.
• Collaborate with legal, commercial, product, compliance, marketing, and legal colleagues in other markets.

Requirements

• Admission as a lawyer in Australia is required.
• At least four years of post-qualification experience in a law firm or in-house corporate commercial law role.
• Understanding of corporate governance, or the ability to learn it quickly.
• Ability to work across unfamiliar legal matters, exercise judgment, and escalate issues appropriately.
• Ability to explain legal issues clearly to non-lawyers in plain English.
• The position must be based in Sydney or Melbourne and involves regular office attendance.
