Bridge Intern, Summer 2027 (Structural Engineering)

Location: Moon Township, PA, United States; office-based work is expected, with remote work possible at the supervisor’s discretion.

Compensation: approximately $22 per hour.

Michael Baker International provides engineering and consulting services for infrastructure projects including bridges, roads, tunnels, mass transit, airports, water treatment plants, and environmental restoration.

What you will do

• Prepare engineering calculations, drawings, visual aids, and minor CAD revisions for bridge design projects.
• Assist with data collection, input, verification, manipulation, and related engineering documentation.
• Support moderate calculations, structural analysis, and load rating projects for bridges.
• Assist with finite element models using structural analysis software and complex Excel analysis spreadsheets.
• Organize project files and support meeting materials, filing, and scheduling activities.
• Work under the direction of project managers or senior civil engineering professionals.

Requirements

• Full-time enrollment in good academic standing at an ABET-accredited university, college, or technical school, with at least two years of post-secondary coursework completed in the relevant field.
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
• Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
• Interest in pursuing a structural engineering position after graduation.
• Proficiency with MS Office.
• Good analytical skills, strong technical writing ability, excellent communication skills, and strong organizational skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with drafting software, finite element method software, and structural engineering coursework.
