Engineering Manager (Rust)

Location: On-site in the New York City office, United States

Base salary: $250,000–$320,000 per year, plus equity and benefits

What you will do

• Hire, develop, coach, and manage a team of 8–12 engineers, including performance management and career development.
• Own team planning and delivery with product and the technical lead, making priorities, capacity, dependencies, and milestones explicit.
• Partner with the technical lead on execution while using production Rust experience to ask informed questions and understand technical risks.
• Identify delivery risks, remove organizational blockers, coordinate cross-team dependencies, and communicate progress and changes clearly.
• Build sustainable practices for on-call, incidents, support, and continuous improvement while balancing operational work with planned delivery.
• Coordinate with product and partner engineering teams on agent execution, automations, workflow tools, and collaborative products.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience.
• Strong production Rust proficiency, including shipping and operating Rust systems.
• Direct engineering management experience covering hiring, coaching, performance management, and delivery accountability.
• Experience building and operating complex backend or platform systems and understanding failure modes as usage and complexity grow.
• Ability to earn the trust of senior engineers and technical leads through clear expectations, sound judgment, delegation, and follow-through.
• Ability to balance team health, delivery commitments, and technical investment while making capacity and priority decisions explicit.
• Clear communication across engineering, product, and partner teams, including when requirements are ambiguous or priorities change.

• Experience with workflow engines, durable execution, scheduling, or event-driven systems.
• Experience building collaborative documents, spreadsheets, file or artifact systems, project workspaces, or calendar products.
• Experience building products where people and agents work together.
• Experience growing an engineering team while maintaining technical quality and clear ownership.
