Senior Backend Software Engineer (Java)

Location: Northern Ireland, United Kingdom; fully remote

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable, reliable backend services and systems.
• Build and improve RESTful APIs and integrations for the distributed platform.
• Translate business requirements into well-designed, shippable features with engineers, product managers, and designers.
• Contribute to technical design discussions covering architecture, performance, scalability, and trade-offs.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code; participate in code reviews and improve engineering standards.
• Own features from initial design through deployment and ongoing improvement while sharing knowledge with other engineers.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong proficiency in Java and object-oriented software design.
• Experience designing, building, and maintaining backend services in a production environment.
• Experience working with RESTful APIs.
• Good understanding of JavaScript and modern web technologies.
• Understanding of scalable, distributed systems and the ability to reason about technical trade-offs.
• Commitment to code quality, testing, maintainability, and durable software.
• Confidence contributing to technical discussions, sharing ideas, collaborating across disciplines, taking ownership, and supporting others.
• Proactive approach, growth mindset, willingness to learn, and practical judgment about adopting technologies.
