Staff Software Engineer (AI)

What you will do

• Lead multi-quarter initiatives involving several engineering teams, from scoping through production.
• Write exemplar code on critical paths and review designs while balancing quality, speed, reliability, and maintainability.
• Define operational standards for monitoring, availability, scalability, security, release safety, and cost awareness; help lead serious incidents and implement follow-up fixes.
• Lead tool evaluations and architecture migrations, making build-versus-buy decisions explicit.
• Use AI coding tools thoughtfully, challenge AI-generated complexity, and maintain code health.
• Own business outcomes and success metrics, mentor Senior Engineers and below, participate in senior-level interviews, and improve architecture documentation, decision records, and runbooks.

Requirements

• Significant production software development experience, typically 8+ years, including leading complex cross-team initiatives.
• Deep expertise in TypeScript/JavaScript and Node.js, including REST and/or GraphQL API architecture and distributed systems.
• Comfort working outside a primary language and stack, with a T-shaped engineering profile.
• Strong relational database, data modelling, and SQL skills, plus familiarity with NoSQL.
• Experience designing reliable and scalable cloud systems, with solid CI/CD, observability, and incident-response practices.
• Hands-on LLM or agentic-systems experience, or a record of quickly adopting and sensibly applying new technologies.
• Daily use of AI coding tools, with judgment about when to trust them and when not to.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, including explaining technical trade-offs in business terms to any audience.
• Team-player mindset with strong ownership and responsibility for delivering work live and stable.
