Senior Backend Engineer, Platform

What you will do

• Design and build scalable, reliable, and maintainable backend systems.
• Identify, scope, prioritise, and drive ambiguous technical initiatives from analysis through completion.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and coordinate cross-cutting work with engineering stakeholders.
• Build and maintain internal tools and infrastructure using AWS and Terraform.
• Own observability, logging, operational excellence, and platform availability.
• Improve engineering practices through code reviews, design reviews, pairing, and AI-assisted automation.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend development experience and a track record of owning significant technical work end to end.
• Hands-on ownership of infrastructure, reliability, or performance work, preferably on a platform or infrastructure team.
• Experience designing and scaling distributed systems in cloud-native environments; AWS is preferred, while strong Azure fundamentals are also relevant.
• Experience with containerised services and infrastructure as code, particularly Docker and Terraform; CloudFormation exposure is relevant.
• Ability to write unit and integration tests independently in an environment without a dedicated QA function.
• Fluent English required.

Nice to have

• Experience with C#/.NET, PostgreSQL, AWS, ECS, or Kubernetes.
• Experience creating and operating infrastructure as code, including migrations from CloudFormation to Terraform.
• Experience with Kafka or other event-driven and streaming systems such as Azure Service Bus, RabbitMQ, or SQS.
• Experience owning observability and logging for highly available systems.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools, mentoring engineers, or introducing new technologies.
