Director of Engineering (AI)

Location: Remote - US

Salary: $207,000–$253,000 annually, plus 0.068%–0.092% equity and a 10% target bonus.

What you will do

• Lead the day-to-day Engineering organization of approximately 60 engineers across delivery, staffing, organizational health, manager development, and operating strategy.
• Establish management cadence for seven Engineering Managers and serve as the escalation point for cross-team delivery, staffing, and execution issues.
• Refine Engineering performance and health metrics, including Linear, DORA, cycle-time, and reliability measures, and turn them into operating improvements.
• Lead AI strategy across the product and software development lifecycle, taking AI or agentic initiatives into production.
• Set the technical roadmap and balance product delivery, architecture, platform investment, reliability, developer productivity, and technical debt.
• Partner with the Head of Engineering and Product leadership on operating cadence, priorities, risks, dependencies, and tradeoffs.

Requirements

• 12+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years in engineering leadership and 3+ years leading managers and technical leaders.
• Experience leading a 30–60-person engineering organization through multiple Engineering Managers, including management standards, coaching, performance, staffing, and organizational design.
• Experience building KPI systems using DORA, cycle-time, and reliability metrics to improve engineering behavior and outcomes.
• Proven experience shipping production AI and agentic systems with standards for evaluation, observability, security, cost, and reliability.
• Strong system design, software architecture, engineering process, Agile, Scrum, SRE, and DevOps judgment.
• Ability to stay close to architecture and the AI roadmap while working with founders, senior technical leaders, Engineering Managers, and staff engineers.
