Engineering Manager (AI)

Location: Brooklyn, NY, USA; hybrid work with candidates required to live within commuting distance of the Williamsburg, Brooklyn office

Salary: $240,000–$285,000 USD annual base salary

What you will do

• Build and lead an engineering team, including hiring, performance management, coaching, and career development.
• Work closely with customers, product, and design to identify problems and deliver adopted products.
• Contribute production code while owning architecture, technical debt, quality, and delivery planning.
• Develop AI-native systems using LLMs, agents, evaluations, and retrieval as core building blocks.
• Improve engineering throughput through metrics, bottleneck removal, operational debt reduction, and realistic commitments.
• Own production operations, including incidents, on-call, system cost, and security.

Requirements

• Professional experience building backend or data-driven software in demanding environments.
• Strong hands-on engineering skills, including deploying production code to cloud environments and solving large, complex problems.
• Experience leading an engineering team or serving as a tech lead with responsibility for coaching, feedback, and hiring.
• Experience translating customer problems into well-scoped releases from prototype through production.
• Experience with planning, delivery, incidents, on-call operations, and system costs.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with sound judgment about escalation.

Nice to have

• Experience building production systems with LLMs, agents, evaluations, or retrieval.
• Experience using DORA or SPACE engineering metrics.
• Experience in trade, supply chain, compliance, or working with government customers.
