Staff Forward Deployed Engineer, Platform

Location: Fully remote; must reside in the United States. Work within the Eastern time zone, with expected hours from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Eastern. Occasional travel for training and project meetings is expected at less than 5% per year.

Salary: $145,000–$215,000 per year.

What you will do

• Partner with internal program, growth, executive, CTO, security, and engineering stakeholders to identify operational and mission problems, clarify needs, define success measures, and shape executable solutions.
• Conduct discovery sessions and workflow analysis with product and design stakeholders, translating insights into user-centered concepts, prototypes, and validation approaches.
• Contribute hands-on to architecture, code, integrations, demos, AI applications, data solutions, platform services, prototypes, and MVPs from discovery through validation and transition planning.
• Design and integrate systems, APIs, data sources, cloud services, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, release automation, identity controls, observability, monitoring, and deployment automation.
• Build reusable platform capabilities, developer workflows, environment patterns, secure cloud patterns, data integration patterns, and shared components for adoption across programs.
• Enable adoption through workshops, technical reviews, onboarding materials, playbooks, coaching, mentoring, and reusable reference architectures and transition plans.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Math, or a related scientific or technical discipline.
• 7+ years of hands-on software, data, platform, cloud, or AI engineering experience, with the ability to build solutions directly and influence technical direction across discovery, solution architecture, stakeholder engagement, backlog shaping, or implementation planning.
• Strong hands-on depth in platform engineering, DevOps, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, automation, observability, identity, and secure integration patterns, plus working fluency in adjacent full-stack, data engineering, AI/ML engineering, or integration architecture areas.
• Experience taking ambiguous internal, program, or customer problems to working prototypes or MVPs quickly while maintaining technical judgment, security awareness, and delivery discipline.
• Strong stakeholder-facing skills with executives, program leaders, engineers, security stakeholders, capture teams, and government customers when needed.
• Experience integrating systems, APIs, data sources, cloud services, and modern AI technologies, including LLM and agentic approaches, in secure enterprise or government environments.
• Experience designing and building secure solutions handling PHI, PII, or other sensitive data, with knowledge of privacy, authorization, governance, auditability, and responsible AI.
• Knowledge of cloud services, infrastructure automation, CI/CD, build and release pipelines, identity, observability, monitoring, environment management, data integration, and reusable platform capabilities, including logging, metrics, tracing, dashboards, alerting, service health indicators, and operational feedback loops.
• Excellent executive, technical, and written communication skills, including translating technical decisions into mission, business, delivery, and risk implications.
• Experience leading work in Agile or SAFe environments, including backlog management, technical planning, delivery coordination, and Atlassian Jira/Confluence.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust and reside in the United States.

Nice to have

• Federal, DoD, or health IT experience, especially with government stakeholders, Medicare, Medicaid, healthcare, or Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services environments.
• Hands-on experience with Databricks and Palantir, and experience with LLM and agentic AI applications such as MCP servers, agents, retrieval-based solutions, and governed AI workflows.
• Forward-deployed engineering, technical consulting, solution architecture, platform engineering, or senior engineering experience translating prototypes into reusable components, reference architectures, and transition plans.
• Experience mentoring engineers, shaping technical standards, reviewing architectures, and improving engineering quality across teams or engagements.
• Relevant certifications or advanced training in data platforms, cloud architecture, coding, AI/ML architecture, platform engineering, or applied AI delivery.
