About the Role
You will directly manage and develop engineers while owning the delivery, operational health, scale, and cost of time-series and log storage systems and their query layer. You will set direction, manage on-call operations, coordinate dependencies, recruit engineers, and align priorities with partners.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on backend or distributed-systems engineering experience
- 2+ years of directly managing software engineers
- Experience coaching senior and staff-level engineers
- Experience delivering multi-phase projects against fixed deadlines
- Experience operating systems customers depend on during incidents
- Familiarity with Kubernetes
- Strong communication and cross-functional judgment
Responsibilities
- Manage, develop, and grow a team of engineers
- Own time-series and log storage systems and their query layer
- Plan and sequence customer-facing and infrastructure roadmap work
- Set technical direction with staff engineers
- Maintain availability, query performance, and correctness
- Own the on-call rotation and operational health of the storage and query stack
- Manage retention, downsampling, cardinality, and storage tiering tradeoffs
- Coordinate dependencies across collection, ingestion, platform, and customer-facing teams
- Recruit, interview, and onboard engineers
- Align priorities with product, infrastructure teams, managers, and leadership
