Engineering Manager, Notifications (Elixir/Python)

Location: Remote in the United States; company location listed as San Francisco, CA, US.

Base salary: $248,000–$341,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead full-stack engineers building and operating the notifications platform, including Elixir services, Python backends, pubsub pipelines, and Kubernetes infrastructure.
• Set technical direction for notification infrastructure and scale systems reliably as volume and complexity grow.
• Partner with Product, Design, Data Science, Marketing, and platform consumers to define and deliver the notifications roadmap.
• Use experimentation and metrics to improve notification engagement, retention, deliverability, and long-term user trust.
• Hire, coach, and develop engineers while establishing strong engineering practices and an 80/20, high-quality delivery culture.
• Contribute to strategic planning and organizational improvements with engineering leadership.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including significant experience building and operating backend or infrastructure systems at scale.
• 2+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager.
• Experience owning production systems using Elixir, Python, pubsub or streaming pipelines, and Kubernetes.
• Strong understanding of reliability, throughput, and cost at scale, with close involvement in technical decisions.
• Experience collaborating with product managers, designers, data scientists, and engineers to define and ship solutions.
• Track record of growing engineers and helping team members succeed.

Nice to have

• Experience leading shared platforms or primitives used by other engineering teams.
• Experience with push notifications or consumer-scale re-engagement systems, including deliverability, throttling, and policy considerations.
• Full-stack experience across frontend and backend development.
• Experience driving measurable impact through experimentation, messaging, or re-engagement surfaces.
• Understanding of the gaming industry and Discord communications.
