Civil Associate, Structures (Spring/Summer 2027)

Location: Newark, NJ or Pennington, NJ, United States; office-based role.

Salary: $72,000–$85,000 per year.

What you will do

• Perform structural analysis and develop design calculations for bridges and transportation structures using MIDAS, AASHTOWare Bridge Rating, STAAD, and related tools.
• Develop structural details, construction documents, engineering plans, bridge layouts, geometric plans, technical specifications, and material quantity calculations using MicroStation, OpenRoads, and AutoCAD.
• Assist with and review engineering calculations and technical analyses prepared by project team members.
• Support bridge inspections, condition assessments, and inspection reports.
• Collaborate with highway, traffic, geotechnical, environmental, and planning professionals on multidisciplinary transportation projects.
• Participate in project meetings, field reviews, client coordination, and professional development activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis.
• 0–2 years of relevant bridge or structural engineering experience.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
• Commitment to delivering quality work and continuous professional development.

Nice to have

• Engineer-in-Training certification or the ability to obtain it within six months.
• Plans to take the PE exam.
• Familiarity with MIDAS, STAAD, and AASHTOWare structural analysis and design software.
• Working knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.
• Experience with MicroStation, AutoCAD, OpenRoads Designer, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Knowledge of NJDOT, NJTA, PANYNJ, and NJ TRANSIT bridge design standards, plan development procedures, and bridge rating requirements.
• Internship or academic experience involving bridge design, inspection, or transportation structures.
