Linux System Administrator (DoD)

Location: On-site at Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States. No remote or telework option. No relocation assistance available. Day shift. Active DoW Secret clearance required, with ability to obtain and maintain DoW Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.

Salary: $120,000–$145,000 annually, depending on experience, education, and directly related certifications.

What you will do

• Serve as a technical focal point for the architecture, sustainability, and advanced troubleshooting of physical and virtual Linux environments.
• Administer VMware Tanzu and container repositories, bridging traditional infrastructure maintenance with containerization.
• Collaborate with network, systems, and cybersecurity engineers to optimize infrastructure for high availability.
• Automate monitoring, manage complex backups and disaster recovery, and execute software deployments.
• Implement cybersecurity mitigations, maintain SOPs, and align Linux infrastructure with SLAs and mission-readiness requirements.
• Mentor junior staff, lead cross-functional technical projects, and engineer scalable resolutions to difficult infrastructure problems.

Requirements

• At least 12 years of general full-time work experience, potentially reduced with advanced education, including at least 4 years of directly related enterprise Linux operating systems and server management experience.
• At least 6 months of management or leadership experience and demonstrated ability to manage medium-scale technical initiatives and troubleshoot complex systems.
• Proven experience with scripting and automation tools such as Bash, Python, and Ansible, including deployment and configuration of Ansible Automation Platform.
• Experience with Linux Content Management, fapolicy, SELinux, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9, Red Hat Satellite and Capsule, and Red Hat Identity Manager.
• Active DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level II certification, such as CompTIA Security+ CE or higher.
• Active DoW Secret Security Clearance and ability to obtain and maintain an active DoW Top Secret Security Clearance with SCI eligibility.
• Ability to quickly learn challenging technologies, decompose difficult infrastructure problems, maintain professionalism, and demonstrate a proactive commitment to continuous improvement.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field.
• At least 1 year of MDSEA experience.
• Valid Red Hat Certified System Administrator certification.
• Active DoW Top Secret Security Clearance.
• Strong background in process automation and modern system design.
• Expertise in refining standard processes and documenting architectural changes.
