Linux Systems Administrator (Cybersecurity)

Location: Sterling, Virginia, United States; onsite customer environment

Salary: $99,000–$206,000 per year, based on qualifications, relevant experience, and expertise

What you will do

• Install, configure, maintain, and administer Debian, Ubuntu, and other Linux systems and servers.
• Operate Linux services including OpenVPN, DNS, LDAP, email, file services, Apache, and NGINX.
• Monitor system performance, analyze logs and resource utilization, troubleshoot root causes, and conduct preventive maintenance.
• Implement patching, security hardening, vulnerability protection, and access-control measures.
• Provide Linux technical support, diagnose production issues, and minimize downtime.
• Document configurations, service activity, troubleshooting procedures, and resolutions while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Requirements

• Associate or bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, or equivalent technical training and hands-on experience.
• Proven experience managing Linux servers and troubleshooting hardware and software issues in production environments.
• Strong knowledge of Linux file systems, permissions, security, command-line administration, log analysis, and package management.
• Strong understanding of networking concepts and protocols including TCP/IP, DNS, VPN, and Linux routing.
• Experience with configuration management tools such as SaltStack or Ansible.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, documentation, and time-management skills.

Nice to have

• Linux+, RHCSA/RHCE, CompTIA Security+, or Network+ certifications.
• Shell scripting with Bash or Python and familiarity with Nagios, Zabbix, or Prometheus.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, backup and disaster recovery, VMware, KVM, or similar virtualization technologies.
• Previous government or DoD customer support experience or experience in managed service provider environments.
