Technical Underwriting Specialist - Casualty

Location: Hybrid, LON - London, United Kingdom; other locations include Manchester, Birmingham, and Redhill. Full-time employees work three days per week in the office and two days at home under the Hybrid Work Arrangements Policy.

What you will do

• Support the establishment and monitoring of underwriting strategies for the Business Insurance portfolio, reflecting market conditions and global business intelligence appetite.
• Analyse portfolio performance using Business Intelligence, Actuarial, Catastrophe Modelling, Rating, Claims, Production, and other data sources.
• Identify trends in portfolio mix, underwriting and claims performance, geography, segments, distribution channels, rate targets, pricing, and rate adequacy.
• Develop clear analysis and recommendations for portfolio changes, account structure, pricing, treaty reinsurance data, and regulatory returns including MID, ELTO, and Pool Re.
• Maintain underwriting guides and technical guidance, support policy wording and product appetite approvals, and develop underwriting best practices with Product Development, AVPs, Portfolio Managers, and Product Managers.
• Prepare and present reports for Collaborative Underwriting Reviews and Portfolio Reviews, participate in peer and underwriter-level reviews, and create and deliver underwriter training.

Requirements

• Previous underwriting experience in Property and Casualty classes of business in either the Company or London market.
• Degree education and ACII qualification.
• Proven underwriting experience, including identifying and developing new business opportunities.
• Good knowledge of the local insurance marketplace and organisational, regulatory, and statutory rules, policies, and procedures.
• Advanced technical underwriting knowledge, with a proven track record in Property or Casualty Underwriting and advanced technical knowledge of Casualty and/or Property Insurance.
• Strong teamwork, organisational and time management skills, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, interpersonal communication, and written and verbal communication.
• Ability to translate strategy into action plans, lead projects and working groups, influence stakeholders, ask probing questions, and define clear goals and priorities.
• Self-directed approach with responsibility for decisions and actions.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.
• CPCU, ARM, or a related professional designation, or currently working towards one.
